But the ghosts are gone and that feels significant. It all seems to be leading up to something big.
I was wondering, dangerous as this world is, we both have people we want to protect. Sometimes it's the same people. I was wondering if we could come up with some sort of compromise, some sort of arrangement. We have worked well together in the past. [albeit once]
But I respect your decision, as much as it pains me. I can even say I understand.
At least I hope we can be allies, if nothing else. To stand shoulder to shoulder as captains in equality.
[though the day Izzy sees him equal is the day the sun turns to ice cream]
I would though like to know what it is you saw in me that one day. I won't bring it up again. I won't even acknowledge it. I just want to know what I have that is worth something to you.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply and if you need my assistance at all
[It sounds very much to Izzy like that is the end of that conversation. And so he leaves it, for a while, and then for a little bit longer. It's closed, right?
Clearly Stede is burning with want for Izzy's knowledge.. or.. opinion.. or something. Which means Stede won't actually leave him alone as promised. Such passive aggression, with a little hint of begging.]
I saw potential in you. To be a leader the way Blackbeard was. Is. I don't know anymore, whatever you've done to him both home and here is his ruin. Every sailor starts green. That isn't your fault. You have to be taught. I've been sailing since I was a boy, probably before you were even born. This life is all I know. And in my considerable experience, I know potential when I see it.
Unfortunately, I don't see the opportunity aboard this vessel. You can not learn to sail, you can not learn to lead, you can not learn to pirate what is not yours. It is a shame, and I would like to see you prove yourself.. but I can't tell you what that means. It's adapt or die, here. I'm not going to die.

The truth is that I need you.
Just something to consider.

There’s not much to consider. I said I’m done and I meant it, I’m not some doxie you can call upon when it suits you.
Besides, you’ve shown your hand. That’s likely fucked any proposition you have to offer.
